The incredibly effective local non-profit Food Forward is launching a new hands on workshop series.  Following on the heels of their successful Can It! Academy the Foodsteader workshops will be lead by local experts who know their stuff and who live to pay it forward in the most direct way, by teaching you how to become a better food maker.  All proceeds go to Food Forward to help them in their mission.
Food Forward rescues fresh local produce that would otherwise go to waste, connecting this abundance with people in need, and inspiring others to do the same.

Here are the first two workshops on the schedule:

Wild Yeast and Organic Bread Making with Rose Lawrence

$125Rose Lawrence of the acclaimed Red Bread will take you on a journey all the way to a piping hot, classic rustic French loaf. Using only local organic ingredients, you will learn to cultivate wild yeast from the air and local grains, and get your hands involved as you try out a range of kneading and shaping techniques. You’ll taste your creation and take home some dough to practice your skills to keep the yeasty love growin’. 

Beekeeping, Honey, and Mead Making

Discover the beauty and importance of bees, beekeeping and honey, and learn how to make mead! Mead is a simple drink of fermented honey and water with a long, rich history that goes back thousands of years and is possibly the oldest fermented drink known to man. You’ll explore the art of home brewing and learn how to craft your own mead by starting your first batch in class. Find out how easy, fun and inexpensive it is to create this ancient brew on your own. Everyone will take home recipes plus a quart of mead to enjoy!
