Event: Netiya Spring Celebration at Artemesia on May 31st

netiya-spring-flyer-final-copyWhen it comes to feeding all our citizens it really does take a village.  And here in Los Angeles there are many villages working on the problem of finding enough food and distributing it where it’s needed.  One wonderful organization doing exactly that is Netiya. I’m on the host committee for a fundraiser along with Amelia Saltsman (who you hear on the Good Food Market Report).  I believe that faith based communities have a particularly powerful role to play in building gardens and food distribution systems.  Also, when else will you have a chance to explore the unique piece of LA architecture that is Artemesia.  Artemesia, built in 1913 in the Oaks section of Los Feliz is the biggest craftsman style house in the US.  We’ll be gathering there for music, food, drink (provided by Jennie Cooks) and community.  Please join us.

From Netiya’s website:  Netiya is a Jewish network with interfaith partners that advances urban agriculture by cultivating gardens to tithe nutritious food; Netiya organizes community to see a more just and resilient food system. We are a network of 32 faith-based institutions that work on hunger in LA. We believe that our institutions should source our food locally when possible…By making additional fresh produce options available across the city, we not only ease hunger but improve overall nutrition and health. By growing more food, we can tithe more food. We endeavor to build a more just and resilient food system. We believe that collaboration is the only method to make this vision a reality.
