Public Radio – The Original Crowdfunder

Madeleine Brand and I get kooky

This morning I’ll be on air asking Good Food listeners to support the show.  Earlier this week as I listened to other hosts ask for support it occurred to me that public radio is the OG of crowdfunding.  All of you come together to support something that you think has value, something you want in your lives.  If you’ve never donated here’s a new way to think of it.

If I were to launch a Kickstarter campaign to give Good Food more resources (a couple flashmics for field recording, maybe another full or part time production person, money to do more out of town shows, etc) to make the show more better as they say would you click that button?.  I’d like to think that you would.  I think you’d be curious to see what we could do with more resources.  So I’m asking you to do the public radio version of crowdfunding for Good Food.

The most successful Kickstarter campaign to date is The Coolest Cooler, a cooler with a blender and wifi speakers embedded in it.  It raised 13 million dollars.   I think Good Food is pretty cool.  After all we inspire you to make what to put in the cooler and whiz up in that blender, and what’s coming out of those speakers too.

Without you, we’re just sound.  With you, we’re a conversation.

Call between 11am-12pm tomorrow (800-600-5279) or go to kcrw.com/join and leave a note that you’re supporting Good Food.

ps.  If you clicked on the Coolest Cooler link and didn’t donate to Good Food, well wow, I don’t even know what to say.
