The Mom bought me an egg slicer for my birthday. A dear friend who is Mom’s bestie was deputized to buy it since mom can’t get around on her own. Apparently there were many conversations to plan the acquisition. I opened the square box wrapped with “the funny papers” and was mystified. I looked at mom, “An egg slicer?” “Well, I wanted one”, she said. My friends cracked up.
This morning I was called into her room and told to make egg salad using the egg slicer. “You don’t like how I grate it”? “Well, I thought if you cut the egg one direction then put it back and cut it the other direction it would be perfect cubes”. Alrightythen. Obviously she spends too much time thinking about food. The tree of the apple and all that.
I mixed the perfectly diced eggs with some Jalapeño mayo I made to slather grilled corn and served it atop toasted bagels with tomato on the side as commanded by the Mom. The moral to the story is never underestimate the weird influence of the Chew and or The Food Network on a 94 yr old. Thanks Mom. It’s a very beautifully made egg slicer. And you’re right. The egg salad was perfect.
I have an egg slicer..it was my mother’s and it is metal. I love it and one day one of my children will inherit it. Enjoy yours.
Wow, a three generation kitchen tool. I better decide who gets mine/mom’s.
Love, love, love this!
So delighted you enjoyed!
Could really be good for mushrooms too, I like them squared or in 6ths with a little lawrys, butter, olive oil and shallots on hot pan until lightly browned, or (cheat and use storebought of making your own dressing) mushroom salad with Bernsteins Italian dressing, italian parsley, sliced red onions or May Onions, fresh ground black pepper, quick & easy with curly parsley on top. Making your own mayo for eggsalad, yum, I love it, and this pretty little slicer that doesn’t take up much room. Ha, it looks pocket size! Very cute story.
Great ideas for my new little tool. Thanks!
